John H. Boner Community Center

Mission

The John H. Boner Community Center is a not-for-profit agency founded to serve residents of the near eastside of Indianapolis. In 1971, neighborhood residents organized and determined the need for a community center. With their help, John Boner and Dick Moore set up a card table and two folding chairs in an office on East Tenth Street, and the Near Eastside Multi-Service Center was born. Throughout the years, the Center’s philosophy led to the creation of numerous services and programs in response to changes within the neighborhood. John Boner died in 1994, and before his death the Center’s name was changed to the ‘John H. Boner Community Center’ to honor his work.

The energy, commitment and dedication of Center staff are the driving forces behind our success and the important opportunities we offer our neighbors. Through programs, services and community development initiatives, staff help inspire and support those who are committed to a better quality of life for themselves and the near eastside neighborhood.

We believe that neighborhood-driven efforts are essential in developing a healthy, thriving and vibrant community. The Center provides an array of tools for change and growth for our residents and community partners. Through our work, the Center is inspiring hope and fostering change to improve the lives of neighborhood residents.

CHASE NEAR EASTSIDE LEGACY CENTER
As an extension of the John H. Boner Community Center, the Chase Near Eastside Legacy Center provides comprehensive programming focused on fitness, education, youth development and wellness to residents of the near eastside. This facility has expanded the reach and breadth of the services and programs the Boner Center can provide to residents of the neighborhood.
